While I wait for Valve to get back to me on putting my game in the store, I decided to do something I should’ve done from the very beginning- utilize Valve’s Lab Renderer. This renderer completely changes how the game looks and is a significant step up from other current solutions. It does come with a healthy amount of risk and rework, but the payoff is well worth it. It’s difficult to show in still images just how much of an improvement it is, but when actually playing the game and are accustomed to the old way (as I am…) the results are amazing. I put up a quick comparison screenshot below- notice how much crisper the lines are and how much better the overall lighting of the scene is in the second image, especially concerning the glass.
Even though it may seem minor, when you’re actually playing in VR every little thing matters so much more to the overall experience and enjoyment of the game. I wish I would’ve used this from the start as to avoid the problems in performing the upgrade, but luckily from here on it should be smooth sailing.
